Hello Shasta community!

We are headed into a busy few weeks here at Shasta! This Friday is our much-anticipated Glow-Up School Dance—a great opportunity for our students to socialize and celebrate with one another! Following quickly on its heels, please remember that Fall Conferences will be taking place next week, offering an important opportunity to connect with teachers about your student's progress at the mid-point of the semester. Additionally, if your student is planning to play basketball this winter, sign-ups begin this week, so please check the message below.

Finishing Strong Together
Following last week’s announcement about Shasta Middle School closing, we know families may be feeling a range of emotions and have questions about next steps.

While it may be a necessary decision for our district, it still weighs heavy on all of us—students, staff, and the entire Shasta community, and we acknowledge the very real sense of loss and uncertainty this transition brings.

As our district continues to work through the logistics of this decision, please know that we are all deeply committed to a strong finish to this school year. Our students deserve our very best, and we intend to deliver on that promise until the last bell rings.

Throughout this transition, Bethel is committed to transparent and consistent communication with families. We encourage you to engage with the process. Within the next few weeks, there will be listening sessions scheduled for those impacted by this decision. These will be important opportunities to ask questions and raise concerns that can be addressed as we continue throughout this process. One question we know is top of mind for families is where students will attend next school year. Our district’s goal is to have boundary decisions made by early January and to share this crucial information with all families.

Please know that here at Shasta, our entire staff remains committed to our focus on strong academic and social-emotional outcomes for all students. We will continue to center students in our decision-making and find ongoing ways to celebrate and honor their achievements, our school's history, and the connections we have built. Our focus right now is on consistency, stability, and creating a memorable and positive learning environment. We will finish this final year as the strong, supportive, and successful Shasta community we have always been. Thank you for your partnership in this work and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

For those interested in the next sports season, basketball sign-ups will begin Monday, Nov. 17th and will be open until Friday, Nov. 28th. Please look for a separate ParentSquare with links to sign-up.

School Dance - It's a Glow-Up!

We are excited to have fun with students at this week's school dance!
Date: Friday, November 21st
Time: 6:00-7:30pm
Location: SMS Cafeteria
Price: $5 per student ($1 off per can of food brought)
Activities available: Music, dancing, gym games, drinks/snacks and Kona Ice will be available for purchase!

Students must have their Shasta school ID to get into the dance. If students have lost theirs, they need to check in at the front office before Friday. Students also need to remember that major behavior referrals this week may impact their ability to attend the dance.

We will always take additional for support for this event: if you are interested in volunteering to help, please see the link HERE.

What's happening in WIN?

Building Community: Upstander Skills and Positive Connections
This month in WIN, we are focusing on lessons about being an Upstander. This initiative serves as an opportunity to review our community expectations and teach students how to positively intervene when they observe actions that do not align with those standards.
In addition, our Sources of Strength group is presenting to students this month on Positive Friends and Belonging. These student-led presentations focus on hope and the protective factors we all possess to build resilience and enhance overall well-being.

Fall Conferences

We look forward to connecting with all our Shasta families next week during Fall Conferences! These conferences are an opportunity to meet with your student's teachers, discuss their academic progress, celebrate successes, and identify areas for continued growth.
  • Dates: November 24th; 5:00-8:30pm and November 25th; 1:30-8:30pm
  • Purpose: Discuss student progress, grades, social-emotional growth, and set goals for the remainder of the semester.
  • Scheduling: The online sign-up portal for conferences is live. Please look for a separate ParentSquare post with the direct link and step-by-step instructions on how to secure your time slot(s). To help ensure there are opportunities for all families, you are asked to select and schedule conferences with up to two of your student's teachers.
We strongly encourage all families to attend and look forward to seeing you there!

Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey

We want to hear from you! Bethel’s annual Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey will be open from Nov. 17–Dec. 5. This anonymous survey helps us better understand your family’s experiences so we can continue improving our schools. Families complete one survey per child, and it takes about 15 minutes.

Please complete the survey by following this link. Paper copies (English/Spanish) are available in the front office and can be returned by Dec. 5. Surveys will also be available during conferences on Nov. 24–25.
