Hello Shasta community!

We hope you all had a wonderful end to September and are ready for an exciting first full week of October! The school is humming with activity, and our students are settling into the year well.
We are continuing to put a lot of focus on establishing and reinforcing our daily routines here at Shasta. Consistent routines are the backbone of a productive and calm learning environment, and it’s great to see the students settling into them nicely. Thank you for your support in discussing the importance of these structures at home as well.
Please see below for some important reminders about upcoming events, ways you can be involved, and opportunity for feedback. As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or celebrations you'd like to share, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are here to help and value our partnership with families!

Weekly Schedule

We have a full five days of school this week, with our early-release on Wednesday.

Attendance Matters!

As we start the second month of school, consistent and on-time attendance is more important than ever. We have begun our system of addressing excessive tardies (three or more in a week) with our Academic Recovery time on Fridays. We will also be reaching out if we notice your student is struggling with attendance. We miss students when they are not here and want to partner with you in getting them to school!
Chronic absenteeism is a barrier to student success, and it takes less days than we might think. Students are chronically absent when they miss two days per month; this includes for any reason, excused or not. When students are absent, we know they can fall behind and we don't want them to become discouraged. If your student is experiencing difficulties attending school for any reason, please reach out! Visit the ODE website for additional information and resources.

Feedback on Cell Phone Policy

Earlier this fall, we rolled out a new cell phone policy across Bethel schools. We’ve already seen positive impacts—like stronger student engagement, fewer classroom disruptions, and more peer-to-peer connection. At the same time, we know any new routine comes with challenges, and we want to keep learning together.
We’re inviting students, families and staff to take a short, anonymous survey about the policy. Your feedback - both the positives you’ve noticed and any concerns you may have - will help us understand how implementation is going and guide us as we move forward.
🗓️ The survey will close on Friday, October 10.
Thank you for sharing your perspective and partnering with us to keep students at the center of our work!

Help with Bingo Night!

Our BINGO night is approaching next week! We are looking forward to seeing folks there, and are still accepting donations for prizes. Please see our Amazon list for ideas. Donations can be dropped off at the Shasta main office any time between 8:00am-4:00pm.
Additionally, we are looking for a few folks to help with set-up and clean-up the day of the event, Thursday, Oct. 16th. Please be on the lookout for a ParentSquare sign-up if you are interested in helping!
